What is the International Resource Centre?

The International Resource Centre (IRC) has been established as a global public resource website to assist professionals across the world in combating exploitation of children, specifically child pornography. The idea initiated in Dublin, Ireland in 2002 where law enforcement, non-governmental organisations and research groups from various countries came together and created an action plan to fight the rising issue of child pornography.

It became apparent to all participants that this crime is not only a growing problem in individual countries but also a worldwide issue. They also came to a consensus that investigations will only grow in time and involve cross border agencies and therefore a global network among law enforcement agencies needed to be established.

Since then many countries have come aboard and are trying to work together by raising awareness and creating resources and specialised training for investigators. This has aided in many offenders being arrested and sentenced. Not only have law enforcement agencies been working together but governments and the private sectors have combined efforts to find a solution to keep children safe. The IRC is one initiative, which assists in achieving this goal.
